National Day

National Day, also known as Hari Merdeka, is celebrated on August 31st every year to commemorate the independence of the Federation of Malaya from British colonial rule in 1957. It is a day of immense national pride, celebrating Malaysia's sovereignty, freedom, and the unity of its diverse people.

National Day Parade: A massive parade is held, usually at Merdeka Square (Kuala Lumpur) or Putrajaya, featuring spectacular displays by the Malaysian Armed Forces, colorful cultural performances, and decorated floats.
Shouting "Merdeka!": The historic seven-fold chant of "Merdeka!" (Independence) is often reenacted to honor the moment Tunku Abdul Rahman first proclaimed independence.
Flying the Jalur Gemilang: Citizens and businesses proudly display the national flag, the Jalur Gemilang, on houses, vehicles, and buildings throughout the month of August.
Merdeka Eve Countdown: Crowds gather at major landmarks on the night of August 30th for concerts and spectacular firework displays to usher in the national day at midnight.
