Malaysia Day

Malaysia Day is observed on September 16th every year to commemorate the establishment of the Malaysian federation in 1963. This historic event marked the joining together of Malaya, North Borneo (Sabah), Sarawak, and Singapore (which later left in 1965) to form a single nation. It is a day that celebrates national integration and the "Family" spirit across the South China Sea.

Traditions & Celebrations

National Level Celebrations: Unlike National Day (Aug 31), which is often centered in Putrajaya/KL, the Malaysia Day official celebrations usually rotate between Sabah, Sarawak, and Peninsular Malaysia.
Cultural Diversity Festivals: Events highlight the unique indigenous cultures of East Malaysia alongside Peninsular traditions, featuring the Sumazau, Ngajat, and various ethnic dances.
Exhibitions and Documentaries: Educational programs and galleries showcase the historical journey of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) and the founding fathers from all regions.
Community Unity Walks: Many NGOs and local councils organize "Unity Walks" or "Muhibbah" runs to promote harmony and patriotism among the younger generation.
