Hari Raya Qurban

Hari Raya Qurban, or Aidiladha, is the "Festival of Sacrifice." It commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God. It also marks the end of the annual Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca. In Malaysia, it is a national public holiday (with the second day being a holiday in certain states).

Traditions & Celebrations

Aidiladha Prayers: Muslims perform special congregational prayers at mosques in the early morning.
The Ritual of Qurban (Sacrifice): Cattle, goats, or sheep are sacrificed to symbolize the Prophet Ibrahim's sacrifice.
Distribution of Meat: The sacrificial meat is divided into three parts: one for the family, one for relatives/friends, and one for the poor and needy.
Ziarah (Visiting): Families and neighbors visit each other to strengthen community ties and share meals.
Thanksgiving Meals: Special traditional dishes such as Sup Tulang, Gulai, and Rendang are prepared using the fresh meat from the sacrifice.
