Chinese New Year (Day 2)

The second day of Chinese New Year, known as "Kai Nian" (Beginning of the Year), is a continuation of the Spring Festival celebrations. It is traditionally considered the birthday of all dogs, but more significantly, it is the day for "Hui Niang Jia"—the day when married daughters return to their natal homes to visit their parents.

Traditions & Celebrations

Visiting the Natal Home: Married daughters visit their birth parents, usually accompanied by their husbands and children, bringing gifts and red packets.
Continued Visiting (Bai Nian): Families continue to visit extended relatives and friends to exchange well-wishes and strengthen social ties.
Feasting: Households prepare elaborate meals to welcome returning daughters and visiting guests.
Prayers to the Fortune God: Some businesses and households perform rituals to welcome the God of Wealth to ensure a prosperous year ahead.
