This state public holiday celebrates the official birthday of the Sultan of Kedah. As the Head of State and the Head of Islam in Kedah, the Sultan’s birthday is a significant occasion for the people to pledge their loyalty and celebrate the royal institution’s role in preserving the state’s peace and heritage.

Traditions & Celebrations

Investiture Ceremony: A grand ceremony is held at the Istana Anak Bukit where the Sultan confers state awards, titles, and medals to deserving citizens and officials.
Thanksgiving Prayers: Special Majlis Kesyukuran and prayers are conducted at the Zahir State Mosque and other mosques throughout Kedah for the Ruler's health.
Tea Parties and Banquets: The state government organizes official receptions and tea parties attended by community leaders and the public.
City Decorations: Alor Setar and other major towns are brightly lit with decorative lights, and state flags are flown prominently on all government buildings.
