The Best 2027 School Breaks for Family Trips
Several term breaks in 2027 sit right next to festive holidays, which gives families much longer breaks than the table above suggests.
Hari Raya Haji + Wesak + Mid-Year: about 23 days (mid-May to early June)
This is the standout of 2027. Hari Raya Haji (Mon, 17 May) and Wesak Day (Thu, 20 May) fall in the week right before the mid-year break, and MOE has filled the gaps with extra holidays.

Working parents in Group B states can match this with leave: Hari Raya Haji, Wesak Day and the Agong's Birthday (Mon, 7 June) are already public holidays, so you only need annual leave for the working days in between. If your budget only covers one big family trip in 2027, this is probably the one.
Chinese New Year: 9–10 days (February)
Chinese New Year 2027 lands on a weekend (6–7 Feb), and MOE has added extra days around it:
- Group B: Fri 5 Feb to Sun 14 Feb, 10 days off school
- Group A (Kelantan & Terengganu): Fri 5 Feb to Sat 13 Feb, 9 days off school
That's long enough for a balik kampung trip without rushing, or a short trip overseas after the reunion dinner.
Hari Raya Aidilfitri + Term 1: 9–10 days (March)
Hari Raya Aidilfitri (estimated 10–11 March) falls in the middle of the Term 1 break, so families get the whole festive week without taking the kids out of school. Group A also gets Sunday 14 March off, so both groups return on Monday, 15 March.
Deepavali: 4–5 days (October)
- Group B: Wed 27 Oct to Sun 31 Oct, 5 days
- Group A: Wed 27 Oct to Sat 30 Oct, 4 days (Friday–Saturday weekend)
- Sarawak: 28 Oct only
Year-End: the whole month of December
Group A finishes on Thursday 2 December and Group B on Friday 3 December. Schools don't reopen until Monday, 3 January 2028, so that's roughly a month off including Christmas and New Year.

Planning Tips for 2027
Book the May–June break early. With Hari Raya Haji, Wesak, Kaamatan, Gawai and the Agong's Birthday all falling around the mid-year break, it will be the busiest travel period of 2027. Langkawi, Cameron Highlands, Sabah and the usual regional hotspots will fill up fast.
Term 2 is the quieter choice. The late-August break covers Merdeka Day (Tue, 31 Aug), so working parents get a public holiday in the middle of it. Prices are usually lower than in May–June.
Check your group, not your neighbour's. Your state's official weekend decides your group. Since Johor moved back to a Saturday–Sunday weekend in 2025, it is in Group B.
Watch for Islamic holiday confirmations. The Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Hari Raya Haji and Deepavali dates above are estimates. Recheck a few weeks before, especially for Hari Raya Haji, because the 23-day stretch depends on it.
