Malaysia Announces Extra Public Holiday for Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2026
Malaysia’s Prime Minister, Anwar Ibrahim, has announced an additional public holiday for the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations, giving Malaysians more time to travel and spend with their families.
The extra holiday will fall either before or after the festive weekend, depending on the official date of Hari Raya.
To help with planning, two possible scenarios have been outlined:
- If Hari Raya falls on Friday, March 20: Monday, March 23 will be declared an additional public holiday.
- If Hari Raya falls on Saturday, March 21: Friday, March 20 will be declared an additional public holiday.
The announcement was made early to allow Malaysians to better organise their travel and holiday plans during the festive period.
According to the Prime Minister, the additional day off is a gesture of appreciation for the public’s dedication, especially during the fasting month of Ramadan.
The official date of Hari Raya Aidilfitri will be confirmed following the sighting of the Syawal crescent moon on the evening of March 19.
